Wired as Running/Turn Signal

The SP-1 comes stock with Eyebrow lights.  So why don't our RC51's come with them too?  Dunno!  But I liked the look and wanted to do it to mine.  However, I also wanted them to do double time duty.  Meaning work as a running light and also flash like a blinker when the turn signal is flipped, just like the stock blinkers.  If I could have found a very small dual filament bulb, the problem would have been easily solved.  I couldn't, so after asking questions on the 51 forums I finally got some good info on how to do it with a single filament bulb.

If you look behind the fairing just behind the headlights, you will see a small cylindrical area a little large than a 1/2" in diameter.  In the middle of it is a plastic looking hex head.  You need to drill this area out to allow the bulb and mount to be put here.  I took the headlights out and started with a very small drill bit, and progressively worked up to a 1/2" bit.  I then cut the mounting portion off the back of my flushmount assembly, painted it black to match the plastic of the head light, and then contact cemeted it to the area that I drilled out.

Then I attacked the wiring.  See the wiring schematic above on how to do this.  It's not that tough, but until I started asking questions, understood what was happening, and then learned how to fix it, I was clueless.  Thanks for the info Gearhead & JaSoN.

Once all hooked up it works flawlessly.  My setup uses a standard 194 automotive bulb.  The bulb assembly came with my flushmounts.  There are many other bulb and bulb holders / assemblies that can be used and found at Radio Shack and other hobyy / electronic stores.  Many quys use LED lights too.
